Roles and Responsibilities

  • Daily management of correspondence with the Brisbane office
  • Daily management of workflow
  • On-time completion of all tax work
  • Advanced understanding of Australian tax law and surrounding tax concepts
  • Advanced understanding of Capital Gains events in regard to the sale of property or shares
  • Understanding of tax treatment for foreign residents and treatment of foreign income
  • Ability to sort and compile documents into a logical order, and disseminating information from documents, and an understanding of where this is input into ITRs
  • Ability to complete a rental property schedule
  • Ability to complete an advanced level income tax return with a business schedule
  • Developed understanding of CGT in relation to properties and shares
  • Able to reconcile transactions in Xero
  • Preparation of sole trader financial statements
  • Advanced understanding of GST
  • Advanced understanding of FBT
  • Understanding of payroll
  • Preparation of BAS
  • Preparation of other tax return types – trusts, basic company, and partnership
  • Understanding of small business concessions
  • Motor vehicle purchase and sales treatments
  • Preparation of complex company tax returns and financial statements
  • Preparation of a full set of financial accounts, tax reconciliations, prepare franking accounts, and FBT
  • Advanced understanding of how to complete a tax reconciliation. Developed knowledge in tax reconciliation processes, transaction account transactions, and balances
  • Ability to do a GST reconciliation
  • Workpaper preparation
  • Ability to determine and calculate distributions and dividends
  • Ability to complete complex Capital Gains events, including capital gains tax and the sales of investments and business calculations
  • Working knowledge of family trust elections

Required Experience

  • 3+ years’ industry-relevant experience in a similar role
  • Proven work output and attainment of KPI’s/budgets

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree major in Accounting
  • CPA qualified under PICPA member pathway agreement
  • Xero Certified

A Successful Candidate must have

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to be organised and able to meet deadlines
  • Strong focus on learning and improvement
  • High attention to detail

Experience Advantage

  • Advanced working knowledge of Xero the Xero software to be able to reconcile, create custom reports, create bank rules, prepare management reports, and the ability to manipulate data in Xero
  • Bookkeeping experience is advantageous
